Professor Luiz Mello is the Scientific Director of Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) since April 2020.
Professor Luiz Mello graduated in Medicine with a doctorate in Molecular Biology from the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and a PhD in neurophysiology from the University of California.
He was on the Scientific Board of FAPESP from 2003 to 2006 and President of the Federation of Experimental Biology Societies (FeSBE). He was also Director of Technology and Innovation at Vale (Vale S.A.), responsible for the implementation of the Vale Technological Institute. He is currently a member of the Board of CNPq (Brazil’s Research Council) as well as an advisor to the Brazilian Association of Lymphoma and Leukemia (ABRALE), a sectoral editor of the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research and the Vice President of the National Association Research and Development Group (ANPEI).
